Get Claim Help From a Licensed Public Adjuster in The Woodlands
Between Gulf hurricanes, spring hail, and summer windstorms, homeowners in The Woodlands know storm season all too well. When damage hits, the insurance claims process can feel like a second storm. That's why more and more Montgomery County property owners are turning to Public Adjusters to handle their property damage claims.
What is a Public Adjuster?
A Public Adjuster is a licensed insurance claim expert hired by you, the policyholder, not your insurance company. A Texas Public Insurance Adjuster can document your damage, review your policy, prepare your claim, and negotiate with your carrier on your behalf.
What Does Texas Law Say About Public Adjusters?
Texas regulates Public Adjusters under Chapter 4102 of the Texas Insurance Code. Every Public Adjuster must hold a license from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). Before any work begins, they must sign a written contract with you on a TDI-approved form, and that contract must state in bold type: "We represent the insured only."
You can check any Texas Public Adjuster's license status on the TDI website.
How Much Does a Public Adjuster Cost in Texas?
Texas caps a Public Adjuster's total fee, expenses included, at 10% of your insurance settlement. Fees can be hourly, flat, or a percentage of your settlement. And if your insurer pays, or commits in writing to pay, your full policy limits within 72 hours of the loss being reported, your Public Adjuster can't charge a percentage fee at all.
Can I Cancel a Public Adjuster Contract in Texas?
Yes. Texas law gives you 72 hours after signing to cancel your Public Adjuster contract by written notice, for any reason.

Texas caps a Public Adjuster's total fee, including expenses, at 10% of your insurance settlement.
Texas Public Adjusters can't double as your contractor, so their only focus is your settlement.
Before a Texas Public Adjuster can work on your claim, you'll both sign a contract on a TDI-approved form. It must spell out how the fee is calculated, describe the services provided, and include TDI's contact information in case you have questions or concerns.
The 10% cap covers everything: commission, expenses, and direct costs. If your insurer pays or commits to pay your full policy limits within 72 hours of the loss being reported, your Public Adjuster can only charge reasonable compensation for time and expenses, not a percentage.
Texas bars Public Adjusters from taking part, directly or indirectly, in repairing or rebuilding a property they're adjusting. That keeps your adjuster focused on one job: getting you a fair settlement.
